Summarize a chapter of the novel outlining major events, character development, literary devices (provide quote and identify literary device), themes, analysis of epigraph (quote at the beginning of the chapter that usually connects with theme).
 
Choose one of the following topics related to the novel. You may choose to discuss the theme in the novel or in your own culture. Your response should be nearly a page in length and I will mark for quality of writing and depth of engagement.
1. Discuss a family or person in your community or the Aikaus in the novel that are a "social force" and bind the community together as well as welcome new people into their 'family'. How do these people act towards others that sets them apart? How do they serve as role models or inspiration?

2. Discuss a sport, art, event or food form that symbolizes a culture. How does it connect to identity, cultural values, beliefs and myths?
